Fortnite's player base remains impressively large, with over 220 million active monthly players, showing its enduring appeal in the gaming world. This is a significant increase from 2021 when the game had over 400 million registered users, indicating its continued growth and ability to keep players engaged over time.

Fortnite players spend a significant amount of money on in-game purchases. According to a survey conducted by LendEDU, 68.8% of Fortnite players have spent money on in-game purchases, with the average amount spent being $84.67. In terms of overall revenue, Fortnite generated $5.8 billion in 2021.

The Fortnite item shop is a popular spot where players regularly buy new skins, cosmetics, and more with their V-bucks. Popular items include:

  • Skins: Favorites include Travis Scott, soccer, and NFL-themed skins.

  • Celebrity and Brand Items: Items related to celebrities and big brands are popular.

  • Emotes: Players often buy fun and interesting emotes.

  • Gliders: Stylish and unique gliders are in demand.

  • Pickaxes: Pickaxes with special designs are sought after.

The Real Juice In Building Lands 🌍

Epic Games pays creators who build experiences for Fortnite from a pool of 40% of Fortnite's net revenues each month. The payment is based on how long players stay in the game's islands, created by these creators. Some creators have been able to earn significant income by creating popular Fortnite islands. For example, Epic Games estimated that 43 creators would make more than $1 million over 12 months, and five could make more than $10 million

  • LEGO: Creation of LEGO Fortnite, a survival crafting adventure.

  • Ralph Lauren: Digital apparel and accessories collection in Fortnite.

  • Netflix: Elements from Netflix properties, like Stranger Things, added.

  • Balenciaga: First high-fashion brand collaboration with in-game outfits.

  • Disney: Participation in the Disney Accelerator program for equity investment and executive access.

Let’s break down Fortnite’s audience into several categories based on age, gender, device usage, and viewing habits.

  • Age:

    • 85% are 18-35 years old.

    • Over 60% are 18-24 years old.

    • A significant number are under 18 years old.

  • Gender:

    • 78% male.

    • 22% female.

  • Device Usage:

    • 78% prefer consoles.

  • Viewing Habits:

    • Large audience on Twitch and YouTube.

    • Over 13 million hours streamed weekly on Twitch.

    • Peak esports viewership of over 2.3 million in 2019.

  • Employment Status:

    • 42% in full-time employment.

  • Event Participation:

    • Major events draw over 15 million concurrent players.
